第二次国内革命战争时期，国民党围剿红军，江南某苏区的儿童团员丹丹和冬冬姐弟俩放羊时站岗放哨。在红军撤退途中，他们发现红军司令员受伤的白龙马，便找隐蔽处为马治伤。一次，冬冬在河里捉鱼，白龙马竟走入敌人的马群中。寻马时冬冬被俘，但机智的他用芦笛信号把白龙马诱出，敌人的马群也随白龙马一起向红军的驻地跑去。。Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。
