十九世纪后半，欧洲正值流行东洋文化的时代。单身渡海来到法国的日本少女·汤音，在巴黎工商业区中的工艺品店“国王的招牌店”开始了自己的工作。这是汤音通过和店主克洛德的交流，虽然对异国文化充满困惑、但也努力适应生活的旅居物语。。《三王來朝》讲述三王来朝拜耶稣诞生的时候，但电影不是去歌颂这段故事，而是用了十分平板的手法去描述，三王更只不过是普通的人，大部份时间就是描述他们千辛万苦去寻找耶稣诞生地，及遇到的难题，而最大的难题是莫过于在山林中迷路及找路。 在近年众多新星导演之中，西班牙加泰罗尼亚导演Albert Serra算是较具争议性的一人。因为他的电影是如此简约，甚至可说是简陋，即使有不少人大力推崇 (如法国的 “电影笔记” 便曾把导演上一部 “Honour of the Knights” (唐吉诃德) [2006] 选为2007年最佳电影第七位)，但也有人质疑他只是趁着当下慢板长镜头当道的艺术电影潮流故弄玄虚，制作出件件国王的新衣。。In an inaccessible place between the mountains and isolated from the world, a school is located next to an old monastery.
