It follows filmmaker Whelan, who ecorded a solo self-recorded journey travelling across Canada in 2015 after feeling disillusioned with the state of the world.。项天乐从拘留所出来后得知母亲去世，决心完成其三个遗愿。为实现母亲与父亲合葬的遗愿，项天乐与继母康淑云从敌对关系逐渐转变为亲如母子。在经历失业、女友离去等挫折后，他以执着的孝心最终促成康淑云与父母合葬于三棵树下，并领悟“孝心不能等待”的深刻主题。。
