Benjy Stone (Mark Linn-Baker) is the junior writer on a top-rated variety/comedy live television show, in the mid 1950's. Young Benjy has a crush on a coworker, K.C. Downing (Jessica Harper), but rather than asking her for a date, he routinely tries to get her to sleep with him.。本片由「小雲雀」顧媚擔綱主演，更有一群當紅歌星客串演出。這是一個有關歌星與記者的愛情奇緣喜劇，顧媚飾著名歌星小雲雀，自曼谷來香港演唱，巧遇陳厚飾的冒失記者劉仕泰；仕泰為刺探桃色事件內情，假扮南洋界娛樂鉅子親近小雲雀，期間笑料百出之餘，亦交往出真感情來。片中出現多首經典歌曲，包括顧媚主唱的《空虛的夢》、方逸華主唱的《花月佳期》及潘秀瓊主唱的《情人的眼淚》等。。
