When a young woman's niece and nephew are threatened with foster care after her sister is hospitalized following yet another overdose, she flees with them until they land in the sleepy town of Bethlehem just before Christmas and a series of kindnesses and coincidences gives the trio a chance at happiness.。1961年8月，柏林墙在一夜之间建成，将德国的柏林一分为二，东柏林和西柏林，无数家庭和恋人被一堵墙人为地阻隔在自由与不自由的两个世界里。哈里、弗里希、弗雷特、贝克等人为了能将滞留在东德的亲人带到西柏林，开始在柏林墙下挖掘一条长145米的地道。而东德这边戒备森严，危险时刻相伴……。
